High quality food, incredible service and excellent view of the garden. Great and brilliant location to the lake where the pots are in the ground cooking and tastefully decorated rooms. Also - short walk to the Terra Nostra park 24h, a lovely big botanical garden, and Furnas for 3 days. Free parking onsite provided. Could use hotel's casual restaurant and spa.

The location is good.. Everything is very clean.. We had a room without a view of the park but when we arrived they informed us that they had changed us to one with a view.
The room is carpeted, which, I find in itself unsanitary.. They charged us 5 euros when we ordered food from room service. I've never seen anything like it. The decoration, from my point of view, is antique, although I understand it's a matter of taste. . The staff is attentive and friendly in an also "old" style. There are buttons and everything! I haven't seen it for a while. I find it a bit uncomfortable, but I suppose there are people who like it. . Breakfast is not bad, but it's not crazy either. And the restaurant.. Expensive. We spent 80 euros on dinner and almost without realizing it. In general, it didn't meet our expectations after the reviews we read.

Great location near park Terra Nostra, free entrance to it and just near vulcatic pool. The old style building and quit place make great atmosphere.

The staff members were all absolutely courteous and very attentive. My room was nice styled & huge with robes, 2 twin beds. The breakfast was rich and good hot with an excellent spread served by experienced, fresh juices, you will not be disappointed...

The ambience is great, if a little jaded, and the volcanically-heated thermal pool is a wonderful experience. Breakfast was alos good, with a wide choice of dishes.
Dinner is over-formal, the food is (typically for Portugal) only average, but the hotel has pretensions with too many waiters acting in a somewhat supercilious manner. Generally good - but not as good as they think!

Absolutely superb old world charm. Lovely art deco features. Thermal pool in ground wonderful and guests also have use of it and the gardens in the evening after daytrippers have gone.. Restaurant excellent food and silver service overlooking the gardens.
We had a room on the road side which was a bit noisy at night. Should have upgraded to a garden view room. Bathroom a little dated in our room

The hotel is situated in an excellent position to use as a base to visit the surrounding countryside and specifically the adjacent gardens (which are well worth seeing). It has a very good inside pool and the rooms are spacious.
The hotel looks 'faded' in certain areas and doesn't have air conditioning. Given that the island is so small I would suggest it would be better to stay on the coast in a cheaper hotel and travel to Furnas (I think the hotel is overpriced for what it is as I paid less per night to stay in the Grand Hotel Royal, Sorrento - which is considerably better)

Loved this hotel and his architecture from the thirties. So spacious and beautiful. Very large room. Great indoor swimming pool and hot lake in the amazing gardens. The staff were friendly and gave us an upgrade. Hotel full of personality to be rememberd as special....

The gardens and the natural pool are the main standout points. Hotel decoration is very stylish in an Art Deco, 1920-30 way. Restaurant is also very nice and the staff is very friendly.

Everyone was particularly helpful as well as owner. The location was absolutely incredible, relatively close to Caldeiras.

The garden with the hot pool was nice, the room was warm and there was warm water available. Breakfast was ok but not luxury.
The hotel and especially our room was old fashioned. There was substancial damage caused by water in the walls and roof, and the room smelled wet. Bed was hard and blankets thin. Lamp in the corner didnt work, and after inspecting the issue we noticed that the wall socket was not working, there was no electricity coming in to it. View out of the window was something like from a horror movie, because from that side the hotel looked like it had been abandoned years ago. Hotel staff at the reseption was boasting and nobody offered any help with the luggage. Even though paying over 100 euros per night we had to rent towels for the outside pool! For this rate we expected so much more, and the hotel pretended to be a luxury hotel on the internet. Definetely will never go back again.

would be happy to recommend for a fleeting pause
Really good hotel, really good gardens, with a good early morning dip in the hot springs before a locally infused breakfast that sets the day.

Location.
This 3 star hotel just isn´t worth the unreal price (way over € 150/day). Rooms outdated and very poorly decorated. No air conditioning! And you better also forget the cheap bathrooms...

The gardens are beautiful. The hotel is old-fashioned but with charm. Good breakfast and nice bar
